Organisational Development – Growth Strategy
Corporate Restructure - BI Team
Project
Universe was engaged by a leading technology and telecommunications company to navigate a major restructure of their Business Intelligence team. The company was moving to a new future state organisational structure designed to accommodate growth whilst bolstering their existing team with the best BI experts in the market.
Partnering with the Head of Business Intelligence, Head of HR and Head of Talent, Universe was briefed on the current organisational structure of the BI team which comprised over 100 team members and eight functional heads. We worked closely with key stakeholders to understand the strategy and direction of the new structure to help advise on the organisational structure in line with the business strategy, budget and overall objectives of the BI team. The company was interested in exploring the external talent market to understand the pool of top BI, Analytics, Architects, Data Science, UX, Strategy, Engagement, Innovation, Systems & Governance experts available to potentially join either in a newly created role or existing position at senior or mid-level within the new structure.
Solution
Universe provided advice and recommendations for the transformation to the new organisational structure, which would encompass 30 different role types in the BI Business Unit, including new senior appointments including a Head of Information Architecture and Head of Data Insights and Analytics. Other mid-level roles in the new organisational chart covered solutions, strategy, systems, architecture, governance, data science, analytics and consulting. Once the new organisational structure had been confirmed, we provided a comprehensive overview of the top BI experts in the market across a range of skillsets to complement the existing team that would transition across.
Using our expert research methodologies and vast network in technology, we mapped the best talent in the Australian market across a range of industry sectors and company size from large corporates to start-ups. Top profiles across 30 role types provided insight into the external market and a benchmark against the current team. Key data and analytics were presented graphically, highlighting a breakdown of talent within competitors, industries, gender splits, location and skillset. Our project report included market trends, observations and recommendations in order for the company to better understand the BI landscape in Australia. This was accompanied by quantitative data, supporting key data-driven decision-making for defining the new structure.
Outcome
Our market insight and advice was commended for providing detailed and valuable data and information to help shape and develop the new organisational structure for the BI team. The extensive talent mapping component provided insight into the competitor market, whilst providing the business with target profiles to attract the best people to the BI team for specific roles following the finalisation of the new structure.
This comprehensive project was instrumental in key stakeholders reviewing and benchmarking their current team and structure. The data insights, analytics and talent map was later used to target, reach out and attract new prospects in the external market to strengthen their growing world class BI team.
