Talent Mapping & Pipelining / Workforce Planning
National Renewable Energy Projects
Project
One of Australia’s largest construction infrastructure companies approached us to support the rapid growth of their Renewable Energy business. The company had built some of Australia’s largest solar and wind farms and were continuing to win large contracts to build a range of new renewable energy projects across Australia. With several new project wins and several other potential contracts to be awarded in the pipeline, including solar, wind farms, wave energy, hydroelectric and geothermal projects, the business wanted a strategic partner to ensure current projects were fully staffed and there was a strong pipeline of talent for future renewable energy projects.
The company had developed a sophisticated workforce plan highlighting each project across Australia in (ACT, NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS and WA), the project value, type (solar/wind), size (MW, turbines), model (EPC, D&C) start and end date and the gaps in staff for each project and role type. There were over 30 roles across the projects and the highest priority were Project Directors/PM’s/Construction Managers, Commercial Managers/Project Controls and HSEQ Managers which the business wanted Universe to identify, attract and pipeline.
Solution
Universe utilised specialist research techniques and our strong network in construction and engineering to set about identifying and mapping the top talent in the renewable energy sector. Over 500 targets were identified across priority role types and details including company, title, location, gender, detailed notes on current and previous renewable project experience and full contact details were provided.
Universe partnered closely with the Head of Talent to support this major project and ensure the Australian renewables market was comprehensively mapped. Following the completion of the first stage of Talent Mapping, given the volumes of staff required and tight timeframes, we supported the business in attracting target relevant individuals with renewables experience to join the company to deliver one of their current solar or wind projects or future renewable projects.
Universe worked closely with the Head of Talent and business leaders including the EGM – Renewable Energy and HRD providing regular updates to ensure the project was tracking in line with the workforce plan and the tight timeframes for mobilising staff.
Result
Following the completion of the project, the contractor was able to continue to use the national market maps for each role type to approach and appoint key people for a range of new solar and wind projects. The data from the mapping and engagement stages was loaded into the company Applicant Tracking System which proved paramount in building a pipeline of qualified talent who would later join the business. The client was impressed with the professionalism, thorough approach, responsiveness and willingness to go the extra mile to deliver a great major piece of work.
